| Van Gogh painted these almond blossoms as a gift for his newborn nephew, Vincent Willem van Gogh - Theo and Jo’s son. He regarded the delicate white flowers against a sky blue background as a symbol of new life. The choice of almond blossoms was hardly accidental: as one of the earliest blossoming trees, the almond is a true harbinger of spring.
